‘The Highway’ is unlike any story you have ever read before.

The Spirit is not what you’d expect. How can it be? The Spirit is a fathomless, never-ending mystery. So discovers Quentin, when the Ball of Fire in the Centre of the World knocks at his door. Heartbroken, disillusioned and heading south, he finds an extraordinary old woman with a battered yellow Golf, waiting beside the road. She challenges him with the original quest: to see if he can beat the riddle that has confounded every soul that ever lived – the riddle of love.

In pursuit of his quest, Quentin must learn the grand art of gazing. He discovers how to probe the surroundings, finding insight and power in the ordinary and the everyday. He faces up to the great mysteries of the world, and as the yearlong quest progresses, he is compelled to the devastating truth about the real nature of our world.

Quentin’s story unfolds on the great arena of South Africa’s Cape Peninsula, where old powers brood and where the presence of the Spirit is so robust, so vigorous, you can taste it. As the locals say: in this place you end up either mad, or very religious.
