Something to Remember Me By is a collection of three tales by the unsurpassed master of contemporary American fiction.

Three people – two men and a woman – tell stories of the past, of their hopes and disappointments. Intrigues of surprising drama, together these stories comprise a moving exploration of the gift, and the price, of memory.

In the title story, published here for the first time, a man recounts how, as a boy of seventeen, eager to embrace life, he strayed one winter afternoon far from his mother's deathbed, finding not solace but humiliation and, ultimately, the blessing of his father's wrath.

The two novellas, The Bellarosa Connection and A Theft, were first published in 1989 to enormous critical acclaim. They remind us, as Jonathan Yardley wrote in The Washington Post, that although Bellow is best known and most admired for his large works, he is an uncommonly gifted writer of short fiction.

The book includes a short foreword by Saul Bellow on the virtues of writing short.
