Written by a co-winner of the 1970 Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology, Nerve, Muscle, and Synapse provides an introduction to the structural and physico-chemical properties of nerves, muscles and synapses, as well as their functional relationships. The author discusses the development of modern theoretical concepts and the experimental evidence on which they are based. Technical terms are clearly defined as they appear, and with the help of simple numerical examples, the ideas and problems are pursued to the quantitative level.
