Dis nou vyf jaar sedert jy met Die hart van ons huis kennis gemaak het met my dikwels onidilliese lewe in ‘n idilliese landskap – my lewe in Provence. En ons woon steeds in Kerkstraat. (En dit klink steeds meer eksoties in Frans: Rue de l’église.)
Ons – dis nou ek en my Franse man, Alain, en vier kinders – woon steeds oorkant ‘n twaalfde-eeuse klipkerk, toneel van vele begrafnisse en enkele troues, in ‘n kliphuis met blou hortjies en ‘n plataanboom waaronder ons in die somer eet.
