Technology has been a prime driver in man's journey from hunter/gatherer to modern man. Yet, technology is often ignored in development decisions apparently on the assumption that technology will be available when needed.
Daan Toerien, a former scientist, and technologist, explores the impact of technology on the fate of nations and communities and explains why conscious technology choices, even at the level of local authorities, are important.
He examines the factors that drive the sustainability of low-technology businesses and presents a model for making technology choices in a quest to build sustainable economies even when one is limited to low-technology options. Individuals and groups interested in or involved in local economic development as well as budding entrepreneurs should find the book invaluable.
