We have seen rapidly growing interest in the use of hydrophyte-based systems for treating sewage and mining and industrial wastewater. The potential of reed beds and similar wetland systems for providing cost-effective treatment for small, and often isolated, communities has led to over 400 such systems being operated or tested in Europe alone.
