Hello Reader,
"For last year's words belong to last year's language, and next year's words await another voice." – T.S. Eliot
I love this line because it feels like a map for the year ahead and a good way to think about reading.
I wonder about you.
Which books are next to your bed right now? The ones you read at night, or pick up whenever you have a quiet moment? Do you read quickly, or linger over sentences?
Do you keep track of what you read, or just let it happen? Do you have a reading resolution or goal for the year, a number of books, a list of titles, or simply a plan to read more mindfully?
For me, over the past few years my goal has always been 50 books a year. Sometimes I make it, sometimes I don’t. What I have however consistently done is collect quotes, passages, and little moments from the books I read. Little landmarks I can return to whenever I want.
If you're not doing it yet and if you wanted to, this year could be the year to play around with a reading goal: a number of books, a list of titles, or just a promise to yourself to read more of what you love. If you track your reading online, feel free to reply with your Goodreads, LibraryThing, or other reading profile. I’d love to see what you’re reading, and you might even inspire someone else’s reading map!
PS: May your year be full of unexpected (but positive!) plot twists… and happy endings.
